Lens Pulling Tour

To learn where the different lenses are, follow your trainer when he/she pulls these lenses…

  • Where are the finished CR-39 SV lenses?
    • Pull a -3.00 lens and a -0.25 -2.00 lens
  • Where are the finished poly SV lenses?
    • Pull a -3.00 lens and a +3.00 lens
  • Where are the FT 28 CR-39 lenses?
  • Where are the FT 28 poly lenses?
  • Where are the no-line CR-39 lenses?
  • Where are the no-line poly lenses?
  • Where are the semi-finished SV photochromic lenses?
    • Pull one lens in any prescription
  • Where are the FT 28 bifocal Poly photochromics?
  • Where are the no-line bifocal poly photochromics?
  • Where are the trifocal poly photochromics?
  • Where are the semi-finished CR-39 trifocals?
  • Where are the semi-finished Poly trifocals?
  • Where are the semi-finished poly SV polarized?
  • Where are the SV CR-39 semi-finished lenses?
    • Pull a 2 base
  • Where are the SV Poly semi-finished lenses?
    • Pull an 8 base

Trainer… Now sit down with your trainee and do the following…

(Have the trainee get the lens out, touch them, and compare them to other lenses)

Use the SV-finished CR-39 (-3.00) & SV-finished Poly lenses (-3.00) and have your trainee see the difference in thickness between the two.  Then drop them onto a table so the trainee can hear the difference between the two (notice the poker chip sound the poly makes).

Use finished Poly -3.00, +3.00, and finished CR-39 -0.25-2.00 lens and have the trainee put all three up to their eye and see the difference between them (notice how the world looks when the cylinder lens is turned from side to side, and how the minus prescription is for seeing distance and the plus prescription magnifies everything).

Use the photochromic lens and have the trainee put their finger on it and walk outside for a minute (without moving their finger).  Then come back inside and see the difference in color and how long it takes for the lens to change back to clear over white paper.

Use all the lenses and let the trainee hear the difference between both lens materials (finished and semi-finished).

Use the semi-finished lenses to show the difference in base and explain why you need different bases.

Also, show the trainee the base chart in the lab.
