Proper Clean & Care

Before a first-time glasses wearer leaves with his/her new pair of glasses, it is important to quickly go over important cleaning and care instructions so their glasses last them a long time.

  • Cleaning a pair of eyeglasses is easy.  Simply run them under warm water. Add a tiny drop of liquid soap or shampoo, (no dish detergents) to your fingertips rub, them together to create a lather, gently rub the lens and frame, and rinse with warm water.  Dry with a clean, soft cotton cloth.  You can also clean the entire frame this way.  If a pair of glasses are cleaned with a shirttail, the fabric typically has dust on it which can scratch a lens.
  • During the day if a lens gets smudged, NEVER wipe the lenses dry.  Doing so may cause them to get scratched.  ALWAYS wipe them off when they’re wet with a clean cotton cloth.
  • Come back and have the nose pads replaced when they become dirty (note: this doesn’t apply to all frames)
  • Make sure you take your glasses off with both hands.  Taking a pair of glasses off with one hand eventually brings them out of alignment, causing customers to return more frequently for adjustments.  It also causes unnecessary pressure on the lenses and could eventually crack one, or make it pop out.
  • Also putting a pair of glasses on top of your head causes them to become stretched out and they will begin to slide down your nose.
  • Never leave glasses in a hot car or in direct sunlight, and always store them in the case provided.
  • When you take them off NEVER lay them down with the lenses facing down.  This can scratch the lenses.
  • A good rule of thumb, “if they’re not on your face, put them in your case.”

No matter how careful a person is, a pair of glasses may still need adjusting from time to time.  So make sure when dispensing glasses you always invite the customer in to get their glasses periodically adjustedFREE of charge.  Advise them to NOT fix them themselves because that can cause breakage.
