2G: Seized Chuck Pins

Created by SVE Labs, Modified on Tue, 22 Apr at 5:39 PM by SVE Labs

Tools Needed:

  • Allen Wrench Set

  • Micro Screwdriver Set

  • Needle Nose Pliers

  • Poly 1st Fine Pad

Recommended Schedule:

Every 6 months or as needed (If needed sooner)

  1. Remove the 4 Hex Head Screws with a T10 bit from the Micro Screwdriver Kit. This will allow the Chuck Retainer to be removed.

  1. Remove the 2 Allen Bolts on the Chuck (on alternate sides) using a 7/64 Allen Wrench.

  1. Remove the Chuck Pin Assembly. You will need to use a combination of Needle Nose Pliers, and the allen wrench to wiggle the Chuck Assembly forward and out.

5. On the back of the Chuck Assembly, remove the 2 Allen Screws using a 1/16 Allen Wrench. This will allow the back plate to come off, which holds in a spring on each side (under the screws) that put pressure on the pins from the backside. You can then remove the pins. Being they are stuck in place, you can use the Needle Nose Pliers to turn them and break them free, then push them out the back.

6. Using the Poly 1st Fine Pad (sand paper) sand the Pins on all sides to remove build up. You can also wrap the Fine Pad Pedal around a pen or drill bit, and use it to sand the inside of the Chuck Assembly (if there is a lot of build up).

7. Once the Pins are clean, and will freely slide in and out of the pin holder, reassemble the Chuck Assembly in reverse order.

*NOTE* There are no instructions to lubricate the Pins or Chuck Assembly. Lubrication will cause rapid build up of lens shavings and debris. WD40 or equivalent can be used to free the Pins from the Chuck Assembly, but must be cleaned off and dried with Alcohol before reinstalling.
